When to Call 9-1-1 for EMS Assistance
- Severe or traumatic injury
- Severe abdominal pain
- Difficulty breathing/choking
- Chest pain or pressure
- Erratic behavior/thoughts of suicide
- Loss of or an altered level of consciousness
- Seizure
- Poisoning or overdose
- Diabetic symptoms
- Stroke symptoms
- Severe allergic reactions
When NOT to call 9-1-1
- To get quicker treatment in the emergency department (for non-emergent issues)
- Minor illnesses or injuries
- Non-emergency situations
- General inquiries or advice
- Situations that can wait
