Ambient Scribe Technology Gives Centra Providers More Time to Focus on Patients
Designed with providers in mind, Centra’s new ambient scribe technology helps clinicians reclaim their time, reduce the burden of documentation, streamline decision-making and care coordination, and most importantly—refocus ontheir patients.
The idea for implementing an ambient scribe tool first surfaced during Centra’s All Provider Meetings in 2023. At the time, the technology was just beginning to gain traction in healthcare as a way to support physicians and advanced practice providers with faster, more efficient charting. Proven benefits included reduced after-hours documentation, decreased burnout and an improved patient experience.
By leveraging AI-powered ambient scribe technology, providers are able to focus fully on their patients rather than their computer screens. The result is a more natural, engaging patient interaction where providers can listen and connect without distraction.
Since its implementation earlier this year, the tool has already been used in more than 50,000 patient visits. Currently, 167 Centra providers are actively using the technology, which is also in place at over 250 healthcare organizations nationwide.
Centra plans to expand the use of the ambient scribe to the Emergency Department in the coming months, followed by implementation for inpatient providers.
According to Jen Halikman, vice president of applications information technology, “The providers in Centra Medical Group using the system today have remarked that it has been transformational. We intend to expand the product to the ED and inpatient providers. We also look forward to the development of additional capabilities beyond the ambient scribe, including tools for order generation, coding and nursing documentation.”
Each advancement brings us closer to our goal: helping our teams spend more time doing what they do best—caring for our patients and our community.
