As we prepare for the celebratory ribbon cutting and opening of the Centra Behavioral Health Hospital, we want to share more about this new facility taking shape at the Centra Simons Run Medical Campus and how it will expand access to critical services for our community.
The campus, located on property Centra purchased in 2017, will bring together two state‑of‑the‑art hospitals dedicated to behavioral health and rehabilitation services. This project is a collaboration between Centra and Lifepoint Health affiliates, including Lifepoint Behavioral Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, and is a part of Centra’s overall Modernization Plan.
The Centra Behavioral Health Hospital, a 60,000‑square‑foot, 72‑bed facility has been designed to provide a therapeutic environment for adults and children with mental health needs. The hospital will provide inpatient services and include features tailored to this patient population, such as open community spaces, outdoor courtyards, spacious patient rooms and advanced clinical areas that support healing and recovery for patients and their families.
The opening of the Centra Behavioral Health Hospital directly responds to the need for increased access to mental healthcare identified in Centra’s 2021 and 2024 Community Health Needs Assessments. Once complete, the facility will replace the current inpatient behavioral health units at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital and provide a new, purpose‑built environment. Construction on the Simons Run Campus began in the third quarter of 2024 and is progressing steadily in preparation for the behavioral health hospital’s ribbon-cutting in May.
This investment represents an important step forward in Centra’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve by expanding access to high‑quality, specialized care close to home.
