Cardiovascular Sonography Program

Upon graduation, students earn an advanced certificate in their chosen track of cardiac or vascular sonography and are eligible to sit for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) board examinations.

Additionally, the successful student in the Cardiovascular Sonography Program will be a dedicated learner with good interpersonal and communication skills, eye-hand coordination, and physical strength.

Program Overview

Program Duration: 15 months
Class size: 4
Curriculum: The program’s academic coursework is 100% online in collaboration with Washburn University’s accredited sonography curriculum. All clinical instruction and training are based at Centra facilities. The program is three semesters in length, starting in the fall.
Clinical experience: 24 hours per week of onsite clinical instruction.
Prerequisites: All prerequisite courses must be completed at the post-secondary/college-level education courses with a letter grade of C or higher. Only one course is required in each category:

  • Communication (English, Composition or Speech)
  • Human Anatomy (if combined with Human Physiology, Human A&P I and II must be taken)
  • Mathematics (Intermediate Algebra, Algebra, Statistics or Trigonometry)
  • Physics (General Physics, no lab required, or Radiographic Physics, if enrolled in or a graduate of a Radiologic Technology program)
  • Medical Terminology

Information for Applicants

The application process and approval process are in collaboration with MedAxiom and Washburn University.

Application Process: 

  1. All applications will need to be submitted to the Supervisor of Cardiovascular Sonographers via email (wanda.trent@centrahealth.com)
  2. All applications are due on October 31st, and accepted applicants will undergo an interview process to determine if they are a suitable fit for the program. All interviews will be scheduled in December of each year.
  3. Applicants who move on from the interview process will then be recommended by the Supervisor to MedAxiom by February 1st of each year for screening purposes.
  4. Once screening is completed and approved by MedAxiom, Washburn University will then reach out with the correct links and directions for how to apply to their Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program. (Washburn will have the students enrolled by the end of February.)
