Neurosurgery

Neurosurgeons provide diagnosis and treatment to patients with injury to or diseases of the brain, spine or peripheral nerves. Surgical or non-surgical care depends on the nature of the injury or illness.

Our approach

Centra's minimally invasive surgery techniques allow the surgeon to perform the procedure through a small incision, often just an inch or two in length. When compared to traditional surgery methods, minimally invasive surgery typically results in less pain for the patient, minimal scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

Our convenient location in Lynchburg allows patients to see their neurosurgeon pre- and post-operatively closer to home.  Surgery, if needed, is performed at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. Whenever possible, minimally invasive techniques are utilized.

Conditions we treat

  • Brain tumors
  • Herniated discs
  • Pinched nerves
  • Spinal stenosis and compression
  • Carpal and ulnar nerve entrapment
  • Adult hydrocephalus
  • Aneurysms
  • Arteriovenous malformation

Surgery, when needed is performed at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and supported by the Neurological Intensive Care Unit which is designed for patients requiring special nursing care and equipment for their recovery,
